The Indian Navy has taken a significant stride in enhancing the safety and operational readiness of its submarine crew with the commissioning of ‘Vinetra,’ the Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility. The facility was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, at INS Satavahana in Visakhapatnam.
Vinetra is designed to boost the escape capabilities of crews aboard the Kalvari-class submarines, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle underwater emergencies. This state-of-the-art facility, which is indigenously designed and developed, marks a crucial step forward in the Indian Navy’s ongoing commitment to self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The new training facility will provide submariners with realistic training environments and scenarios, enhancing their skills in emergency protocols and escape procedures.
