On Thursday, September 26, 2024, President Droupadi Murmu made a significant visit to the Siachen Base Camp, where she expressed her admiration and respect for the soldiers stationed at the world’s highest battlefield. This visit marked a profound moment of recognition for the troops who endure extreme conditions to protect India’s territorial integrity.
During her address to the troops, President Murmu highlighted the extraordinary challenges faced by the soldiers, including heavy snowfall and temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius. She commended their unwavering devotion and vigilance, stating, “They present extraordinary examples of sacrifice and tolerance in protecting the motherland.”
As the supreme commander of the armed forces, President Murmu expressed immense pride in the bravery and steadfast commitment of the soldiers, affirming that all citizens of India salute their bravery. The President also made a poignant visit to the Siachen War Memorial, where she paid tribute to the martyrs of Operation Meghdoot, which since April 13, 1984, has secured Indian control over the strategic glacier.
