Indian Army chief Gen. Upendra Dwivedi concluded his visit to Nepal with a spiritual pilgrimage to the revered Muktinath Temple in Gandaki province, a significant site for both Hindus and Buddhists. This visit on Saturday included offering prayers at the holy shrine, emblematic of the deep cultural ties between India and Nepal.

His trip began with his arrival in Kathmandu on Wednesday, where he was invited by Nepal Army Chief Gen. Ashok Sigdel for a five-day official engagement. During his time in Nepal, Gen. Dwivedi was bestowed with the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepal Army by President Ramchandra Paudel โ€“ a significant recognition reflecting the strong military ties between the neighboring nations.

On Friday, Gen. Dwivedi engaged in discussions with key Nepalese officials, including Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Defence Minister Manbir Rai, where they explored matters of mutual interest and cooperation. The dialogues aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two armies while addressing regional security concerns.

A highlight of his visit was his interaction with Maj. Gen. Santosh Ballav Poudyal at the Western Division Headquarters of the Nepal Army in Pokhara, where he received a warm welcome. This visit underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond between the Indian and Nepalese armed forces, amidst broader discussions on defense collaboration.

Gen. Dwivedi is expected to wrap up his visit and depart from Nepal on November 24, marking the end of a diplomatic mission that fortified military and cultural connections between the two nations.
