Indian Fishing Vessel Collides with Navy Unit Near Goa; Search Underway for Missing Crew Members

An Indian fishing vessel identified as Marthoma collided with an Indian Navy unit in a serious incident off the coast of Goa on Thursday evening. The collision reportedly occurred approximately 70 nautical miles northwest of Goa, involving a crew of 13 individuals on board the fishing vessel.

Following the incident, swift Search and Rescue (SAR) operations were launched by the Indian Navy to locate and assist the crew members. According to a press briefing from the Navy, six ships and several aircraft were deployed to the affected area to conduct the search.

As a result of these extensive efforts, 11 of the 13 crew members were successfully rescued. However, the fate of the remaining two individuals remains uncertain. Ongoing SAR operations are being executed with coordination from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai. The Indian Navy has also diverted additional assets to the area to enhance the search efforts.
