In a significant address at the Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kannur, Kerala, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi emphasized Indiaโ€™s robust maritime domain awareness capabilities, stating that the country possesses a highly effective system to monitor its oceans. He affirmed that India is fully aware of the movements and activities occurring within its maritime space, ensuring that national interests remain uncompromised.

During a press conference following the grand finale of THINQ 2024, a nationwide quiz competition organized by the Indian Navy, Admiral Tripathi responded to concerns regarding Chinaโ€™s dual carrier operations in the South China Sea. He characterized these maneuvers as unalarming for India, noting that the Indian Navy has engaged in similar dual carrier operations for many years. โ€œWhat China does in any part of the globe, let them do it. What they do in our area of interest, we are keeping a close watch. Nothing happens in our part of the world which we do not know,โ€ he remarked.

Tripathi highlighted the Navyโ€™s proactive monitoring of activities in the Indian Ocean region, asserting that whether military or non-military, all actions that could impact Indiaโ€™s interests are observed. โ€œWe know exactly who is where and who is doing what,โ€ he stated, reinforcing the Navyโ€™s commitment to safeguard Indiaโ€™s maritime security.

The Navy Chief also expressed pride in the ongoing expedition of two young women Naval officers undertaking a global circumnavigation mission as part of Navika Sagar Parikrama-2. Expected to reach their first port in Australia soon, these officers are prepared for the challenging journey ahead, which involves navigating rough seas and extreme weather conditions. Admiral Tripathi highlighted their extensive training, which includes experience across 36,000 nautical miles.

Regarding the initiatives aimed at popularizing the Indian Navy, Admiral Tripathi noted that the Navy is actively engaging the youth through educational competitions like THINQ. He mentioned that these efforts are designed to inform the public, particularly younger generations, about the Navyโ€™s operations during both peace and conflict. โ€œInnovation is one of the top priorities for the Navy,โ€ he said, emphasizing a commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.

Admiral Tripathi explained the Navyโ€™s recruitment process, which includes a rigorous assessment of officer and cadet suitability. He expressed confidence in the quality of personnel entering the Navy and highlighted a collaborative approach that involves public sector undertakings, small and medium enterprises, and startups in technology-driven initiatives.

For THINQ 2024, participation was impressive, with 12,600 schools from 3,800 cities and towns taking part. The semifinals saw sixteen teams compete, culminating in eight teams participating in the grand finale, showcasing the Navyโ€™s outreach efforts to engage with the youth across the nation.
