A Legacy of Service

Lt Cdr Sahil Ahluwalia is a second-generation Naval officer, following in the footsteps of his father, Retired Commodore Ravi Ahluwalia, who led the Indian Navy contingent at the Republic Day Parade 34 years ago. This unique legacy makes the moment even more special, with the Ahluwalia family ecstatic to witness history repeating itself on Kartavya Path.

Speaking about the honor, Lt Cdr Sahil Ahluwalia said, “It would be a moment of immense pride and honor for me as a second-generation Naval officer to follow in my father’s footsteps. It is the culmination of months of relentless hard work, discipline, and teamwork, with every member of the contingent striving for perfection both on the parade ground and behind the scenes.”

The Naval Tableau

Following the marching contingent will be the Naval Tableau, a visual depiction of the Indian Navy’s journey toward self-reliance under the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. This year’s tableau will highlight India’s rapid progress in indigenous warship design and construction. Key features include the Destroyer INS Surat, Frigate INS Nilgiri, and Submarine INS Vagsheer, showcasing the Navy’s cutting-edge capabilities to safeguard India’s maritime interests.

Lt Cdr Sahil Ahluwalia: A Remarkable Career

Lt Cdr Ahluwalia joined the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in December 2012 and was commissioned in November 2016. Known for his exceptional abilities, he was adjudged the best sportsperson of his course at the academy.

A specialist in gunnery and missile warfare, Lt Cdr Ahluwalia has served on some of the Navy’s frontline warships, including INS Teg, INS Kolkata, INS Tabar, and INS Kirch, participating in critical operations such as anti-piracy patrols and Operation Samudra Setu during the COVID-19 pandemic.

His overseas deployments have taken him to 27 countries, where he has participated in joint exercises with various foreign navies. Currently, he is posted on INS Mysore as the Gunnery Officer.

Adding to his accolades, Lt Cdr Ahluwalia has twice been selected as Guard Officer to the President of India, showcasing his exceptional discipline and leadership.

Lt Cdr Ahluwalia and his team are determined to put forth an impeccable performance at the Republic Day Parade, with hopes of winning the Best Marching Contingent Trophy. Speaking with confidence, he shared, “We are very confident that we will win the best marching contingent trophy this year.”

As the Indian Navy contingent takes center stage on Republic Day 2025, led by Lt Cdr Sahil Ahluwalia, it will be a moment of pride not just for the Ahluwalia family but for the entire nation. Their synchronized steps and the tableau’s stunning display will stand as a testament to the Navy’s dedication to protecting India’s maritime sovereignty and its commitment to self-reliance.
