Lifetime Service

The Indian Army hosted its 144th Retiring Officers’ Seminar (ROS) on May 23, 2025, in New Delhi to honour officers set to retire on May 31 after years of dedicated service. The event, a tribute to the veterans’ invaluable contributions, was presided over by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, who personally thanked the officers for their unwavering commitment to the nation.

General Dwivedi, who assumed command as the 30th COAS on June 30, 2024, emphasized the significance of the officers’ leadership beyond military service, stating that their experience would continue to play a vital role in shaping India’s future. Among those honoured were Lt Col Lokender Chandel, Brig Lokender Chandel, Lt Gita, Brig Gita, Lt Col Navreet Srivastava, and Col Navreet Srivastava, all of whom received certificates of appreciation for their service.

The seminar’s backdrop prominently displayed the national flag and the Indian Army insignia, alongside a heartfelt message: “All Ranks of Indian Army Thank You for Your Service.” Group photographs captured the camaraderie and shared pride of the retiring officers, many of whom have served in diverse and challenging terrains across India.

This event forms part of the Army’s ongoing commitment to its “Decade of Transformation” (2023–2032), with 2025 designated as the “Year of Reforms.” It builds on last year’s “Year of Tech Absorption” and reflects broader modernization goals under General Dwivedi’s leadership. Recent steps in this direction include the distribution of 35,000 SAMBHAV secure communication handsets and the induction of 37 indigenous technological innovations, 25 of which have already secured intellectual property rights.

The 144th ROS not only recognised the dedication of the outgoing officers but also reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to honouring its veterans while pushing forward with its transformation agenda. It follows a similar seminar held earlier in February 2025, underscoring a consistent effort to support personnel as they transition from military to civilian life.
