Subedar Sanjeev Singh Jasrotia of the 5th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu during a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The honor was conferred as part of the Gallantry Awards 2025, recognizing his exceptional bravery during a counter-terrorist operation in Baramulla district, a sensitive area in Jammu and Kashmir.
Subedar Jasrotia demonstrated remarkable courage and leadership under hostile conditions. In the midst of a fierce engagement, he successfully neutralized one hardcore terrorist and injured two others. His fearless actions played a decisive role in the success of the mission, ensuring the safety of his team and contributing to regional security efforts.

The Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award, is presented for acts of valor or self-sacrifice in non-combat situations. It often acknowledges outstanding contributions during counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. Subedar Jasrotia’s recognition is part of a broader commendation of 93 armed forces personnel this year, as announced by the Ministry of Defence, underscoring the bravery of those serving in conflict-prone regions.
Baramulla district, located near the Line of Control, continues to face security challenges due to its strategic location and frequent militant activity. The operation led by Subedar Jasrotia highlights the ongoing efforts of the Indian Army to safeguard the region from cross-border threats and maintain stability in the Kashmir Valley.
President Murmu, who has consistently supported the armed forces since taking office in 2022, presided over the event attended by military officials, decorated soldiers, and their families. The occasion reflected the nation’s deep respect for its defenders and the sacrifices they make in the line of duty.
The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, with a long-standing tradition of service and valor, has earned its place among the most respected regiments of the Indian Army. With battle honors dating back to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947–1948 and the Kargil War, the regiment continues to play a pivotal role in India’s defense operations.
Subedar Jasrotia’s gallantry serves as a powerful testament to the dedication and resilience of India’s soldiers. His actions not only inspire pride in the armed forces but also reaffirm the unwavering commitment of those who protect the nation’s sovereignty under the most challenging circumstances.
