General Anil Chauhan Reviews Operational Readiness at Western Naval Command

Chief of Defence Staff stresses tri-service integration, cites success of Operation Sindoor Cup.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan visited the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai on Saturday to assess operational readiness and advance the agenda of jointness among the armed forces. The visit included high-level discussions with Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the command, and marked a renewed emphasis on enhancing strategic integration across services.

General Chauhan received detailed briefings on the command’s operational capabilities in the Arabian Sea region, a critical maritime zone given rising Chinese naval presence. Addressing a gathering of naval officers, the CDS reaffirmed the importance of tri-service synergy in future conflicts. He underscored how jointness had proved vital during Operation Sindoor Cup in May 2025, a mission that neutralized over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in precision strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation’s success has also served to boost inter-service morale, leading to the planning of a friendly cricket match between an Army XI and Parliament XI in Kanpur.

General Chauhan praised the Western Naval Command’s professionalism and emphasized the need for integrated command structures. He cited the Indian Armed Forces’ Joint Doctrine of 2017 as the foundation for current reforms aimed at improving combat effectiveness.

According to internal defence assessments, tri-service operations have shown up to a 15 percent increase in mission efficiency. The CDS’s visit comes amid a larger push for theatre commands and operational coherence, as India faces evolving threats along both land and maritime borders.

This interaction between military leadership and field units signals a continued commitment to modernization, joint planning, and improved warfighting capability through seamless integration of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
