Kanwariyas Brutally Assault CRPF Jawan at Mirzapur Railway Station, Bystanders Remain Passive

Attack Caught on Camera; Case Registered, Multiple Arrests Made by RPF.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was viciously attacked by a group of Kanwariyas at Mirzapur Railway Station, sparking outrage after a disturbing video of the incident went viral on social media. The victim, identified as Gautam, was in uniform and waiting to board the Brahmaputra Express to Manipur when he was beaten to the ground by a mob of pilgrims while onlookers and even security personnel failed to intervene.

According to official reports, the altercation began when a verbal dispute broke out between Gautam and several Kanwariyas on the railway platform. The disagreement quickly escalated, resulting in a violent mob attack in which the CRPF personnel was chased, pushed to the ground, and repeatedly punched and kicked. Eyewitness footage reveals that despite wearing his uniform, the jawan received no assistance from the surrounding crowd.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was registered at the RPF post in Mirzapur. Three separate FIRs—numbered 411/25, 412/25, and 413/25—were filed under Sections 145 and 147 of the Indian Railways Act. Some of the assailants have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend others involved.

Sources indicate that Gautam boarded his train and left for his destination following the incident. Authorities acted on the matter afterward, registering the case and initiating an investigation. The motive behind the initial altercation remains unclear, but the brazen disregard for a uniformed officer has raised serious concerns about public safety and the conduct of certain Kanwariya groups.

The incident comes amid a series of controversies surrounding the Kanwar Yatra this year, where isolated groups of unruly pilgrims have been reported clashing with locals and disrupting public order. The assault on a CRPF jawan in broad daylight is being viewed as a serious lapse in public discipline and crowd control at railway stations during the pilgrimage season.
