The soldier, identified as Kapil Kavad of the Rajput Regiment, was returning from leave and heading to Delhi airport to catch a flight to his post in Srinagar. He and his cousin got stuck in heavy traffic at the crowded Bhuni toll booth. Worried about missing his flight, Kapil stepped out to speak with toll staff, which led to an altercation.

According to police, at least five toll booth employees thrashed the soldier and his cousin. Video footage showed Kapil being beaten with sticks, pinned to a pole, and abused while his hands were held behind his back.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed the arrests, stating, “Kapil is in the Indian Army. He was returning to his post when the incident took place. Following his family’s complaint, a case was registered at Sarurpur police station. Four accused have been arrested after reviewing CCTV and video evidence. Teams are working to nab the remaining suspects.”

Reports suggest the dispute began when Kapil informed staff that his village fell within the exempted toll zone, leading to an argument that escalated into violence.
