The Ministry of Defence has dismissed media reports claiming that India has paused talks on a $3.6 billion defence purchase from the United States. In an official statement, defence officials called the reports “false and fabricated,” stressing that all ongoing procurement cases with the US are being processed in accordance with established procedures.
Earlier reports had suggested that the alleged freeze was linked to US President Donald Trump’s recent tariff hike on Indian exports. The purported deal included acquisitions such as Stryker combat vehicles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, and Boeing P8I reconnaissance aircraft.
The ministry’s clarification reaffirms that India’s defence procurement with the US remains on track, and no planned acquisitions have been suspended. Officials reiterated that the country’s defence cooperation with the United States — including equipment purchases, joint exercises, and intelligence sharing — continues without disruption.
