Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, visited the Madras Regimental Centre in Wellington on Monday to review its training programs and engage with veterans. The visit highlighted ongoing modernization efforts and the centre’s role in shaping future soldiers under the Agnipath Scheme.

The Madras Regimental Centre, one of India’s oldest military training hubs established in 1942 and relocated to Wellington in 1947, runs a 24-week basic military training program for Agniveers. Since 2022, over 100,000 recruits have trained here, with 25% retained based on merit. Lt Gen Seth was briefed on infrastructure upgrades and the integration of advanced technology aimed at improving field craft, battle craft, and readiness for modern battlefield conditions. He praised the centre’s high standards and urged all ranks to maintain mission readiness amid evolving security challenges.

During the visit, Lt Gen Seth met with veterans, acknowledged their service, and felicitated achievers for their contributions to community welfare. This focus on veteran engagement reflects the Army’s increasing emphasis on morale and community integration as part of its strategic priorities.

The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to blending tradition with modernization, ensuring the Madras Regimental Centre remains a cornerstone of military preparedness in the decade ahead.
