Lt Gen D.S. Kushwah, AVSM, SM, has assumed command of the Headquarters Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa Area, succeeding Lt Gen Pawan Chadha, SM, VSM, in a traditional ceremony marked by a formal exchange of salutes.
After taking charge, Lt Gen Kushwah called upon all ranks to uphold the Indian Army’s finest traditions while maintaining high levels of operational readiness. He underscored the role of technology in shaping the force under the ongoing Decade Of Transformation and the Year of Reforms.
Placing emphasis on mission-oriented training and cutting-edge tools, the new commander highlighted the Army’s shift toward artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial platforms, and counter-drone systems – a vision earlier outlined by Army Chief General Manoj Pande. By 2027, plans are also in place to replace animals in transport units with drones, marking a decisive move toward modernization.
This leadership transition comes shortly after India’s 78th Independence Day, underlining the Army’s focus on self-reliance and innovation.
Lt Gen Kushwah’s vision is expected to strengthen the Army’s strategic posture in the face of regional challenges, reinforcing its commitment to remain a future-ready and self-reliant force.
