Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Eastern Air Command (EAC), met the Honโble Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Santosh Gangwar, during an official call-on at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday. The meeting focused on strengthening national security frameworks and developmental initiatives aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Governor warmly welcomed Air Marshal Surat Singh and acknowledged the critical role of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in safeguarding the nationโs skies, providing rapid disaster relief, and supporting regional stability. He extended his best wishes to all Air Warriors of the IAF, lauding their professionalism, courage, and dedication.
National Security and Developmental Priorities
Discussions during the meeting revolved around the strategic importance of eastern India, which faces complex challenges ranging from border security to disaster management. With Jharkhand being rich in mineral resources and forming part of Indiaโs industrial backbone, the synergy between security and development was underlined as crucial for the nationโs growth.
Air Marshal Surat Singh highlighted the IAFโs initiatives in enhancing surveillance, quick-response capabilities, and collaboration with civil authorities. He assured continued support of the IAF in humanitarian assistance, particularly in disaster-prone regions where air mobility plays a decisive role in saving lives.
Eastern Air Commandโs Role
The Eastern Air Command, headquartered in Shillong, is responsible for air operations over a vast region that includes the eastern and northeastern states. Its strategic responsibilities include safeguarding the borders with China, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, as well as maintaining operational readiness in areas of high geopolitical sensitivity.
The EAC has also been at the forefront of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, including flood relief, evacuation, and medical aid in the eastern sector. Air Marshal Surat Singh reiterated the Commandโs commitment to ensuring preparedness for both conventional threats and non-traditional challenges.

The meeting also touched upon Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, where security and development are seen as complementary pillars.
