Eastern Air Commandโ€™s Role

The Eastern Air Command, headquartered in Shillong, is responsible for air operations over a vast region that includes the eastern and northeastern states. Its strategic responsibilities include safeguarding the borders with China, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, as well as maintaining operational readiness in areas of high geopolitical sensitivity.

The EAC has also been at the forefront of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, including flood relief, evacuation, and medical aid in the eastern sector. Air Marshal Surat Singh reiterated the Commandโ€™s commitment to ensuring preparedness for both conventional threats and non-traditional challenges.

Viksit Bharat Vision

The meeting also touched upon Prime Minister Narendra Modiโ€™s vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, where security and development are seen as complementary pillars. The Governor emphasized that a secure environment is essential to sustain Jharkhandโ€™s economic growth and industrial expansion, particularly in sectors like mining, steel production, and renewable energy.

Air Marshal Surat Singh noted that the IAFโ€™s growing capabilitiesโ€”ranging from induction of advanced aircraft to space-based surveillanceโ€”are aligned with national developmental goals, as secure skies and rapid mobility are vital to Indiaโ€™s aspiration of becoming a developed nation.

Strengthening Civil-Military Ties

The meeting concluded on a note of strengthened civil-military cooperation, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to work together for the security, development, and well-being of the people of Jharkhand and the wider eastern region.
