In a groundbreaking achievement, Battalion Under Officer (BUO) Mukta Singh is all set to become the first female cadet to be awarded the Bronze Medal at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya. She will officially receive the honour during the Passing Out Parade (POP) scheduled for tomorrow, September 6, 2025.
Overcoming Setbacks to Create History
Muktaโs journey was anything but easy. She was merit-out twice but in her third attempt at the Short Service Commission (SSC) Technical Women-32 Course, she secured All India Rank 1 (AIR-1). Initially training at OTA Chennai, her course was shifted to OTA Gaya, where she stood out as the only relegated female cadet due to severe knee injury.
Despite setbacks, Mukta rose through the ranks, taking on leadership roles as Academy Under Officer (AUO), Junior Under Officer (JUO), and finally Battalion Under Officer (BUO). She excelled both academically and physically, topping several training tests and proving her mettle.
A Trailblazer at OTA Gaya
Her perseverance culminated in a historic milestone as she is set to finish third in overall merit among passing-out cadets, becoming the first woman Bronze Medallist at the academy. This marks a proud moment not just for her family, but also for the Indian Army, as women continue to break barriers.
The Changing Face of OTA Gaya
Since its expansion in 2023, OTA Gaya has become a hub for technical entry training, with the relocation of several courses to meet Indiaโs growing regional security needs. With only 1โ2% of applicants making it through the highly competitive selection process, Muktaโs success stands as proof of the academyโs rigorous standards and her own exceptional grit.
Inspiring the Next Generation
As the Indian Army opens more avenues for women officers, Mukta Singhโs story will inspire countless young women across India who dream of wearing the olive green. Her achievement is not just a personal victory but a milestone in Indiaโs military history, showcasing the Armyโs commitment to inclusivity, resilience, and leadership.
