Junior Under Officer (JUO) Abhishek Sajwan, hailing from Kot, Chamba in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, is all set to be commissioned into the Indian Army at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, during the Passing Out Parade (POP) on September 6, 2025. His journey from a humble farmerโs family to the drill square of OTA is a remarkable story of perseverance, grit, and dedication to serve the nation.
Early Life and NCC Foundation
Abhishek, who holds a Masterโs degree in Defence and Strategic Studies, first displayed his leadership qualities in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as a Senior Under Officer (SUO). His NCC tenure included Army attachment with an Armoured Regiment and participation in a National Integration Camp, experiences that laid the foundation for his military aspirations.
Struggles, Rejections, and Relentless Determination
The road to the Academy was far from easy. Despite facing multiple rejections in his attempts to join the armed forces, Abhishek never gave up. To support his family, he worked with Decathlonโs Mountaineering Section, where he built resilience and teamwork. Inspired by his maternal uncle, a 5 Garhwal Rifles veteran, he pushed his limits by mastering mountaineering, kayaking, and even completing a 100-kilometer ultra-marathon, strengthening both his physical endurance and mental toughness.
Breaking Through: OTA Chennai Selection
His determination bore fruit when he achieved an All India Rank 51 through the NCC Special Entry Scheme, securing his place at OTA Chennai. The academy, which has expanded from 500 to 750 cadets since 1999, now counts Abhishek among its promising young officers.
A Moment of Pride: POP on September 6
On September 6, 2025, Abhishek will proudly march at the Passing Out Parade in Chennai, marking his transition from cadet to officer. For his family, village, and state, this moment embodies pride and fulfillment of a long-cherished dream.
Symbol of Hope for Youth
Abhishekโs success story represents the spirit of the Indian Army, where determination, rural talent, and resilience continue to pave the way for future leaders. His journey stands as an inspiration for countless youth across India who aspire to wear the olive green uniform.
