As part of the Forward Area Tour, a contingent comprising 112 Student Officers along with Directing Staff of the prestigious Higher Command Course visited the Headquarters Eastern Command at Vijay Durg, Kolkata, today. The visit formed an important component of the course curriculum, aimed at providing future senior military leaders with a deeper understanding of operational realities, strategic perspectives, and theatre-level planning in the Indian Army.
During the visit, the delegation was warmly received by Senior Officers of the Eastern Command, who interacted with the student officers and provided valuable insights into the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness, and geopolitical challenges in the Eastern Theatre. The officers were briefed on the multi-dimensional role of the Command, which oversees India’s vast eastern front, including borders with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.
The discussions highlighted the complex terrain, weather, and logistics challenges unique to the region and the measures undertaken by the Indian Army to maintain a high level of operational readiness. The briefing also covered topics such as counter-insurgency operations, border management, joint operations with other services, and the integration of technology and modern warfare systems to strengthen operational capabilities.
