The Indian Navy has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art static firing facility, named “Trinetra,” at Naval Station Bheemunipatnam near Visakhapatnam. The facility was inaugurated on October 8, 2025, by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.
Indigenously designed and developed, Trinetra marks a major step towards Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in the testing, evaluation, and life-extension of naval weapon systems. The facility will reduce dependence on foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and enable the Indian Navy to independently assess the performance and operational sustainability of its armament.
The primary purpose of the facility is to conduct scientific assessments of naval weapon systems, including missiles, rockets, and related platforms. By capturing and recording critical performance parameters during tests, Trinetra will significantly enhance weapon reliability, precision, and combat-readiness for operational deployments.
The commissioning of Trinetra represents a milestone in India’s indigenous naval weapons infrastructure, reinforcing the Navy’s commitment to maintaining high operational capability and combat preparedness. It also strengthens the Navy’s ability to conduct rigorous weapon testing, evaluation, and life-extension programs, ensuring sustained effectiveness of its arsenal.
With this facility, the Indian Navy is set to maintain a technological edge in maritime defence, improving readiness to tackle evolving security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond.
