Major General Anurag Vij has taken over as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate, North Eastern Region a key appointment responsible for guiding and shaping the youth development and leadership training initiatives of the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation across eight states of the Northeast.
A Distinguished Military Career
Commissioned into the prestigious Regiment of Artillery in 1990, Major General Anurag Vij is an alumnus of some of the most renowned military institutions in the country the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla; the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun; Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington; and the College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad.
With an illustrious career spanning over 35 years, the General Officer has served the Indian Army with exemplary distinction, holding several key Command, Staff, and Instructional appointments across the length and breadth of the country. His extensive experience reflects a deep commitment to operational excellence, leadership, and mentorship.
Leadership Across Key Operations and Commands
Throughout his distinguished service, Major General Vij has commanded an artillery regiment as Commanding Officer and subsequently went on to lead two Artillery Brigades, demonstrating tactical acumen and leadership under challenging operational conditions. His operational experience includes participation in several significant military operations, including Operation Rakshak, Operation Vijay, Operation Parakram, and Operation Meghdoot, showcasing his versatility and strategic contribution to India’s defence preparedness.
Prior to assuming his current appointment, he served as the General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Maharashtra & Goa Sub Area, Pune, where he played a crucial role in operational readiness, civil-military coordination, and welfare initiatives for serving personnel and veterans.
Stepping into a Pivotal Youth Leadership Role
As the Additional Director General of NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region, Major General Vij now shoulders the vital responsibility of nurturing leadership, discipline, and patriotic values among the youth of the Northeast. The region’s unique cultural diversity and strategic significance make this role particularly critical, as the NCC continues to act as a bridge between young citizens and the armed forces.
Under his stewardship, the NCC in the region is expected to further strengthen its outreach, training quality, and contribution to nation-building by shaping a new generation of disciplined, responsible, and motivated citizens.
