In a tragic development from South Kashmir, the body of one Indian Army paratrooper has been recovered from the snow-covered upper reaches of Kokernag, three days after he went missing during an anti-terror operation. The soldier was found with his rucksack and weapon, indicating that he was part of an active combat team when the incident occurred.

Preliminary reports suggest that the paratrooper’s death was likely caused by an avalanche or sudden snowstorm that struck the high-altitude operational area amid ongoing counter-terror operations. The region has witnessed harsh weather conditions in recent days, complicating both the mission and subsequent rescue efforts.
Search operations, led by specialized Army and police teams, are continuing in the area to locate another missing soldier who was part of the same operation. Officials stated that terrain challenges and unstable snow conditions have made the recovery effort extremely demanding.
The Indian Army has maintained continuous ground and aerial surveillance to support the rescue mission, reaffirming its commitment to bring every soldier home.
