Red Fort Blast

In a strong response to Monday’s deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, the Government of India on Wednesday officially declared the incident a terrorist attack, passing a Cabinet resolution condemning it as a “heinous act perpetrated by anti-national forces.”

Government’s Strong Stand Against Terrorism

Addressing a press briefing after the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Cabinet had unanimously resolved to ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to justice without delay.

“The country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces through a car explosion near Red Fort on 10th November,” said Vaishnaw.

“The Cabinet directs that the investigation into the incident be pursued with utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice.”

The minister reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, emphasizing that the nation would not be intimidated by such cowardly acts.

“The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives. The government reiterates its unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” Vaishnaw said.

He added that the Cabinet also recorded its appreciation for the global solidarity and support expressed by several nations following the incident.

PM Modi Visits Injured at LNJP Hospital

Before chairing the CCS meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital to meet those injured in the blast.
Having returned from a two-day visit to Bhutan earlier in the day, the Prime Minister went straight to the hospital to interact with the victims, enquired about their condition, and wished them a speedy recovery. Senior doctors and officials briefed him on their treatment and current health status.

The Blast: 12 Dead, Several Injured

At least twelve people were killed and several others injured when a Hyundai i20 car exploded near Lal Quila Metro Station on the evening of November 10.
The blast was powerful enough to cause significant damage in the surrounding area and sent shockwaves through Delhi’s central district.

Preliminary post-mortem reports revealed that the victims sustained severe injuries including multiple fractures, head trauma, and ruptured internal organs. Most injuries were concentrated on the head, chest, and upper body, indicating the victims were thrown against hard surfaces by the impact.

Forensic teams confirmed that no splinter traces were found, suggesting a high-grade improvised explosive device (IED) might have been used. The exact explosive type will be determined after laboratory analysis.

Key Suspect Identified

Earlier, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) collected DNA samples from the mother of Dr Umar Un Nabi, the alleged driver of the car that exploded. Sources claim Nabi, a Pulwama-born medical professional, is believed to have links with a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module recently uncovered by Indian intelligence agencies.

NIA Takes Over Investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken charge of the probe, forming a dedicated investigation team led by senior officers of Superintendent rank and above. The team will coordinate with the Delhi Police Special Cell, Intelligence Bureau, and Forensic Science Laboratory to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

Officials said the NIA would explore possible connections to cross-border terror networks, online radicalisation channels, and financial conduits that may have facilitated the operation.

National Resolve Against Terror

The declaration of the Red Fort blast as a terrorist incident marks a significant escalation in India’s counterterrorism posture.
The government’s resolution sends a clear message: India remains united and unyielding in its stand against terrorism, reaffirming the country’s resolve to neutralise any threat to national security and ensure justice for the victims.
