Gunmen launched a deadly assault on the headquarters of Pakistan’s Frontier Constabulary (FC) in Peshawar on Monday, with the attack involving at least two suicide bombers, according to police and security officials.
Initial reports indicate that at least three people have been killed in the strike on the FC complex, which is located in a densely populated area near the city’s military cantonment.
Two Suicide Bombers Breached the Compound
According to a senior security official who spoke to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, the coordinated assault began when the first suicide bomber detonated himself at the main entrance of the FC headquarters. A second bomber then managed to enter the compound before triggering another explosion.
Gunmen accompanying the bombers reportedly attempted to storm deeper into the complex, prompting a swift response from Pakistani security forces.
Terrorists May Still Be Inside, Say Officials
“Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are carefully handling the situation as we suspect there are some terrorists inside the headquarters,” the senior official said.
The possibility of additional attackers hiding inside the multi-building compound has led to a prolonged clearing operation.
Area Completely Sealed Off
Residents described scenes of chaos as security forces rushed to the site.
“The road has been closed for traffic and cordoned off by the army, police and security personnel,” local resident Safdar Khan told Reuters.
The area around the FC headquarters remains sealed as counterterror units sweep the premises.
Rising Security Concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The attack comes amid a surge in militant activity across Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where paramilitary forces have frequently been targeted by outlawed groups operating along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.
Authorities have not yet attributed the attack to any group. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to release more details once the compound is fully secured.
