In an inspiring journey of perseverance and dedication, Keshav Dutt (33) from Rod village in Rehan, Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Armyโs Corps of Signals after successfully completing officer training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
The pipping ceremony marked a proud moment not only for Keshav and his family but also for his native region, as he transitioned from the Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) ranks to the commissioned officer cadre.
From Jawan to Commissioned Officer
Before earning his commission, Lt Keshav Dutt was serving as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. He joined the Army as a jawan in 2011, carrying with him a clear ambitionโto one day become a commissioned officer.
Despite the demands of active service, he remained committed to self-improvement and long-term goals, proving that determination can overcome any barrier.
Education and Technical Excellence
Keshav completed his Class XII education from Government Senior Secondary School, Rehan. While serving in the Army, he further strengthened his technical expertise by earning a Diploma in Electronics and Communication from the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) in 2023.
This technical foundation played a crucial role in shaping his future in the Armyโs communication and signals domain.
Clearing SSB and Achieving Permanent Commission
Determined to secure a Permanent Commission, Keshav appeared for the Technical Officers Entry through the Service Selection Board (SSB). After two unsuccessful attempts, he cleared the SSB on his third attempt in May 2025, showcasing resilience and mental toughnessโqualities central to military leadership.
Following four months of rigorous training at IMA, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Signals, one of the most technically advanced arms of the Indian Army.
Posting and Family Legacy
Lt Keshav Dutt will join his new unit at Jalandhar Cantonment on December 26, 2025. Adding to the familyโs military legacy, his younger brother is also serving in the Indian Army, making service to the nation a shared commitment.
