The pipping ceremony marked a proud moment not only for Keshav and his family but also for his native region, as he transitioned from the Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) ranks to the commissioned officer cadre.

From Jawan to Commissioned Officer

Before earning his commission, Lt Keshav Dutt was serving as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. He joined the Army as a jawan in 2011, carrying with him a clear ambition—to one day become a commissioned officer.

Despite the demands of active service, he remained committed to self-improvement and long-term goals, proving that determination can overcome any barrier.

Education and Technical Excellence

Keshav completed his Class XII education from Government Senior Secondary School, Rehan. While serving in the Army, he further strengthened his technical expertise by earning a Diploma in Electronics and Communication from the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) in 2023.

This technical foundation played a crucial role in shaping his future in the Army’s communication and signals domain.

Clearing SSB and Achieving Permanent Commission

Determined to secure a Permanent Commission, Keshav appeared for the Technical Officers Entry through the Service Selection Board (SSB). After two unsuccessful attempts, he cleared the SSB on his third attempt in May 2025, showcasing resilience and mental toughness—qualities central to military leadership.

Following four months of rigorous training at IMA, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Signals, one of the most technically advanced arms of the Indian Army.

Posting and Family Legacy

Lt Keshav Dutt will join his new unit at Jalandhar Cantonment on December 26, 2025. Adding to the family’s military legacy, his younger brother is also serving in the Indian Army, making service to the nation a shared commitment.

Residents of Rehan and surrounding areas have expressed immense pride in his achievement, seeing it as a testament to what hard work, discipline, and perseverance can accomplish.

An Inspiration for Serving Soldiers

Lt Keshav Dutt’s journey—from sepoy to Naib Subedar and finally to a commissioned officer—stands as a powerful example for serving soldiers who aspire to rise through the ranks. His story reinforces the message that the Indian Army rewards merit, dedication, and unwavering resolve.

His success is not just a personal milestone but a source of motivation for countless soldiers dreaming of wearing the officer’s stars one day.
