Gentleman Cadets, including cadets from friendly foreign countries, from the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, visited the Madras Engineer Group and Centre (MEG), Bengaluru, as part of their Mid-Term Hike Programme on December 27.
The visit aimed to familiarise the future officers with the illustrious legacy of the Madras Sappers and the critical combat engineer role performed by the Corps of Engineers in both peace and war.
During the visit, the cadets were taken through heritage displays that showcased the rich history, gallant traditions, and operational achievements of the Madras Sappers. They also witnessed technical demonstrations highlighting the Corps’ capabilities in mobility, counter-mobility, survivability, and battlefield engineering.
Interactive briefings by senior officers and instructors provided insights into modern combat engineering, disaster response, infrastructure development, and the evolving role of engineers in contemporary warfare. The exchange allowed cadets, including those from foreign friendly nations, to gain a deeper appreciation of the professionalism, adaptability, and technical excellence of the Corps.
The visit left the Gentleman Cadets motivated and inspired, reinforcing the enduring ethos of the Madras Engineer Group and Centre and strengthening their understanding of jointmanship, leadership, and service values that define the Indian Army.
