Rear Admiral Vikas Chawla today assumed charge as the Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyard & Refit) at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, following his promotion to Flag Rank.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1994, RAdm Chawla is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla; the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala; and the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi.

Over his distinguished career, the Flag Officer has held several key operational and technical appointments. His afloat tenures include serving onboard frontline warships INS Ranvir, INS Mumbai and INS Tabar. He has also served extensively at the Naval Dockyards in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, contributing significantly to refit, maintenance and operational support functions.
Rear Admiral Chawla earlier served as the Training Captain and Head of Faculty (Engineering) at the Indian Naval Academy, shaping the next generation of naval engineers. His staff appointments at Naval Headquarters have spanned critical domains such as Ship Production, Naval Training and Indigenisation.

For his distinguished service, he has been awarded the Nao Sena Medal.
With his vast technical expertise and leadership experience, Rear Admiral Chawla is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the Navyโs dockyard, refit and maintenance ecosystem.
