Nation Mourns the Passing of Brigadier Sandeep Thapar, Veteran Officer and Esteemed Army Communicator

Brigadier Sandeep Thapar, a respected Indian Army officer and widely known defence communicator, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, warmth, and dedicated service to the nation. His demise has been met with deep sorrow across the armed forces fraternity and the defence media community.

Brigadier Thapar was known not only for his distinguished military career but also for his pivotal role during two tenures with the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), where he became a familiar and trusted face for journalists covering defence affairs. With his clarity, approachability, and professionalism, he played a key role in strengthening communication between the Indian Army and the media.

Colleagues and journalists fondly remember him as a mentor, guide, and friend who built enduring relationships based on trust and mutual respect. A bon vivant who embodied the spirit of Punjabiyat, Brigadier Thapar was admired for his wit, warmth, and generosity of spirit, traits that left a lasting impression on all who interacted with him. He also fought cancer with full josh.

He is survived by his son, a serving Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army. Brigadier Thapar is now reunited with his wife Meena, whom he fondly described as his “sobering influence.”

The Indian Army, veterans, and members of the defence press have paid heartfelt tributes to a soldier who served with dignity, compassion, and distinction. Brigadier Sandeep Thapar’s life and service will be remembered with pride, gratitude, and deep respect.
