Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Reviews Counter-Terrorism Grid in Kishtwar Amid Active Operations

Jammu, January 31, 2026 – Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command of the Indian Army, conducted a visit to Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir to assess the counter-terrorism framework and overall operational readiness. This inspection occurred against the backdrop of an ongoing joint anti-terror operation, designated as Operation Trashi-I, where security forces re-established contact with a group of terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad in the Dolgam area.

During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma engaged directly with ground-level commanders and troops involved in the operations. He commended the personnel for their steadfast commitment and resolute determination in sustaining counter-terrorism efforts. The Northern Command’s official statement emphasized the Army Commander’s appreciation for the troops’ dedication, highlighting their role in maintaining security in the region.

The timing of the review aligns with heightened activities in Kishtwar, where Indian Army units, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have established a cordon around the suspected terrorist hideout. Reports indicate that contact with the terrorists—estimated to number three—was resumed in the early hours of January 31, with operations continuing to neutralize the threat. This development follows initial engagements in the area, underscoring the persistent challenges in countering militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Photographs from the visit depict Lt Gen Sharma interacting with officers in a formal briefing room setting, where military personnel in camouflage uniforms are seated around a conference area adorned with certificates and operational displays. Another image shows the commander addressing frontline troops outdoors amid snowy mountainous terrain, with soldiers equipped with tactical gear and weapons, reflecting the harsh operational environment.

The Northern Command reiterated its commitment to national security through hashtags such as #AlwaysInCombat and #NationFirst, affirming the Indian Army’s focus on preparedness and vigilance. This visit serves as a demonstration of senior leadership’s active involvement in bolstering the counter-terrorism apparatus in sensitive regions.
