The 220 Squadron, famously known as the Desert Tigers, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee, commemorating 60 glorious years of operational excellence, valour and unwavering commitment to the nation. The milestone event stood as a proud tribute to the squadron’s enduring legacy and distinguished contribution to the Indian Air Force.
The celebrations were graced by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, and Air Marshal J S Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command. A large number of veterans attended the समारोह, recalling their service and sacrifices that shaped the squadron’s formidable reputation over six decades.

The event featured a spectacular display by the Air Warrior Drill Team, showcasing exceptional precision, discipline and teamwork. Adding grandeur to the celebration was a breathtaking performance by the Akashganga Team, which drew wide appreciation and symbolised the spirit and professionalism of the Indian Air Force.

Over its illustrious history, the Desert Tigers have played a decisive role in major conflicts, including the 1965 and 1971 wars, and undertook critical missions during the Kargil conflict. In recent times, the squadron also contributed actively to Operation Sindoor, reaffirming its continued relevance in contemporary operations.

Six decades strong, 220 Squadron continues to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Air Force—ever vigilant, ever prepared and ever victorious, standing as a symbol of combat excellence and operational readiness.
