Under the national initiative Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Indian Railways and the Indian Army have launched a comprehensive Framework of Cooperation aimed at expanding post-retirement and transition-to-civilian employment opportunities for Agniveers and ex-servicemen.
The framework, driven by senior leadership from the Ministry of Railways and the Indian Army, seeks to ensure a smoother shift from military to civilian careers. It focuses on increasing awareness of railway job opportunities, creating dedicated support mechanisms, and institutionalising collaboration to absorb trained, disciplined manpower into the national transporter.
Major Reservation and Recruitment Measures
Indian Railways has reinforced its resettlement policy with structured reservations:
- Ex-servicemen: 20% in Level-1 posts and 10% in Level-2/above posts
- Agniveers: 10% in Level-1 posts and 5% in Level-2/above posts
In 2024–25, a total of 14,788 posts were reserved for ex-servicemen across railway vacancy notifications, with recruitment conducted through RRCs and RRBs via competitive examinations.
Fast-Track Contractual Engagement
To address vacancies quickly, Railways will recruit over 5,000 ex-servicemen as Pointsmen on a contractual basis until regular recruitment concludes. Several railway divisions have already signed MoUs with Army organisations to expedite hiring, with more collaborations planned.
Nation Building Through Skill Integration
The initiative highlights the shared strengths of Indian Railways and the Indian Army—discipline, leadership and technical expertise—and their role in nation building. By integrating Agniveers and veterans into the rail ecosystem, the framework supports workforce readiness while strengthening logistics, infrastructure and security coordination across the country.
