Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Western Naval Command, inaugurated 300 newly constructed dwelling units for senior sailors and defence civilians at Karwar on 21 February 2026. The modern housing complex has been developed under the flagship Project Seabird.
The newly inaugurated residential units feature world-class amenities and contemporary design, reflecting a significant step in infrastructure augmentation at the strategically important Karwar naval base. The project aims to enhance the quality of life, wellness and overall well-being of naval personnel and defence civilians stationed in the region.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Director General, Project Seabird; Rear Admiral Vikram Menon, Flag Officer Karnataka (FOK); and other senior naval officers, highlighting the importance of the milestone within the Navy’s long-term development vision.
The initiative underscores the Indian Navy’s resolute commitment to creating modern, sustainable infrastructure in support of operational readiness while ensuring a conducive living environment for its personnel and their families.
