Indian Army Brigadier Assaulted in Delhi After Objecting to Public Drinking

A serving Indian Army Brigadier and his adult son were allegedly assaulted by a group of men in South Delhi’s Vasant Enclave on the night of April 11, 2026, after the officer objected to public consumption of alcohol in a parked vehicle near their residence. The incident has prompted serious cognisance from the Indian Army, which has directed a Military Police team to assist the officer and has approached the Delhi Police for an expeditious investigation and priority action.

According to detailed accounts, the confrontation occurred around 10:00 PM when Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora and his son, an IIT graduate, were out for an evening walk after dinner in the vicinity of their residential society. They observed two individuals consuming alcohol inside a parked Mercedes car bearing registration number DL3CCY 0789. Brigadier Arora reportedly intervened, stating that public drinking was not permitted in the residential area and requesting the men to relocate or return to their homes.

The situation escalated rapidly. The occupants of the vehicle allegedly refused to comply, with one individual reportedly informing the Brigadier that he was “free to call anyone” but would not move. The two men then summoned reinforcements. Within a short time, seven to eight additional individuals arrived in multiple vehicles, including taxis, and launched an assault on the officer and his son.

In a telephonic interview with NDTV, the Brigadier’s son described the sequence of events: “It was a Saturday night. Around 10, post-dinner, we were out for a small walk, right outside our house, towards the exit of the main road there were two people drinking in a Mercedes car. My father questioned them, saying this being a public society you are not allowed to drink and asked them to go somewhere else or to their house.” He added that his father was pushed, while he himself was dragged and sustained bruises all over his body. “The goons landed in two taxis and started assaulting me and badmouthing my mother. No weapons were involved,” the son stated.

SHAMEFUL CONDUCT BY DELHI POLICE

Last night (11 April), at around 10:00 PM, a serving Brigadier’s family encountered two individuals consuming alcohol inside their car (Regn No. DL3CCY 0789) near their residence in Vasant Enclave.

Reports indicate that a Delhi Police van arrived at the scene during the altercation; however, the victims alleged that the officers present did not intervene effectively, with one constable described as behaving “as if he was another passerby.” The family further claimed that the Vasant Vihar police station initially showed reluctance to register a First Information Report (FIR) when they attempted to lodge a complaint.

The Indian Army has responded firmly to the incident. In an official statement, the Army declared: “The authorities in the Indian Army have taken serious cognisance of the case. A Military Police team has been directed to assist the officer. The Delhi Police has been approached for an expeditious investigation and to take action on priority.”

Delhi Police sources have confirmed that a complaint has been lodged and that the matter is under active investigation. No arrests have been reported as of the latest available information, and police are yet to issue a detailed public statement on the progress of the probe.

The episode has drawn widespread attention on social media, with veterans and citizens expressing concern over the assault on a serving Army officer and his family. Public drinking remains prohibited under Delhi’s excise regulations, and such incidents have raised questions regarding civic order, the safety of residents in upscale neighbourhoods, and the promptness of law enforcement response in the national capital.

This case continues to develop, with the Indian Army’s intervention underscoring the gravity with which it views threats to its personnel. Further updates are expected as the Delhi Police investigation proceeds and the Military Police provides assistance.
