Air Marshal B Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command, superannuated on May 31, 2026, after rendering nearly four decades of distinguished and dedicated service to the nation and the Indian Air Force.
During his illustrious career, Air Marshal Manikantan held several key operational, command and staff appointments, making significant contributions to the operational capability, readiness and effectiveness of the Indian Air Force.

The eve of his retirement was marked by a Commanders’ Conclave at Headquarters Central Air Command, where senior commanders reviewed the operational preparedness and strategic priorities of the command. The event reflected the Air Marshal’s continued focus on maintaining high levels of combat readiness and operational excellence.
As part of the farewell programme, Air Marshal Manikantan also participated in a tree plantation drive at Headquarters Central Air Command, symbolising the command’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

During his interaction with Air Warriors, he commended personnel for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty. He encouraged them to continue upholding the highest traditions, values and standards of the Indian Air Force while remaining focused on operational excellence and mission readiness.
The retiring Air Marshal was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour in recognition of his distinguished service. He also laid a wreath at the Command War Memorial, paying tribute to the brave air warriors who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.

Officials noted that Air Marshal Manikantan’s tenure was characterised by visionary leadership, strategic foresight and a steadfast commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of the Central Air Command.
In a farewell message, the Central Air Command expressed profound appreciation for his stellar service, leadership and dedication to the nation, acknowledging the lasting impact of his contributions to the Indian Air Force and national security.
His retirement marks the conclusion of an exemplary military career that has inspired generations of Air Warriors and contributed significantly to the strength and readiness of the Indian Air Force.
