The Base Repair Depot Nashik of the Indian Air Force achieved a significant milestone in India’s self-reliance journey by successfully carrying out the indigenous overhaul of the Indian Navy’s MiG-29K ejection seat system, a process that was previously undertaken in Russia.
The overhauled system was formally handed over to the Indian Navy in the presence of Air Marshal Yalla Umesh, VSM, PhD, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Maintenance Command.

The achievement marks a major boost to indigenous aerospace maintenance capability and reinforces the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat by reducing dependence on foreign original equipment manufacturers for critical aviation systems.
The initiative also highlights growing inter-service cooperation and jointness between the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy in the field of advanced aerospace maintenance and sustainment.

Officials described the development as a significant step towards enhancing India’s defence repair ecosystem and long-term operational self-sufficiency in military aviation technologies.
