Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Medical Services (Air) and Commodore Commandant of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bengaluru, visited the institute on May 29, 2026, to review its activities and operational contributions to military aviation medicine.
During the visit, the Air Marshal reviewed a Ceremonial Guard of Honour and interacted with officers, air warriors and civilian staff of the institute.
Commending the personnel for their dedication and professionalism, he lauded their significant contributions to the field of aerospace medicine, which plays a critical role in enhancing the operational effectiveness and safety of the Indian Air Force.
Air Marshal Thareja highlighted the importance of maintaining the highest standards of aeromedical support, particularly in an era of increasingly complex air operations and evolving aerospace technologies. He acknowledged the institute’s role in ensuring the physical and psychological fitness of aircrew while contributing to aviation safety and mission readiness.
The Commodore Commandant also encouraged the institute’s personnel to continue advancing aircrew training programmes, conducting cutting-edge research and developing innovative aeromedical solutions to address emerging operational challenges faced by the Air Force.
He emphasised that research and scientific innovation in aerospace medicine remain vital for improving human performance in aviation environments and supporting future air and space operations.
The Institute of Aerospace Medicine, one of the premier centres of aerospace medicine in the country, plays a key role in aircrew selection, training, medical evaluation, aviation safety research and the development of specialised aeromedical expertise for the Indian Air Force.
The visit reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s commitment to strengthening aerospace medicine capabilities and fostering research-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency, flight safety and mission effectiveness.
