Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu addressed the Marshal of the Indian Air Force Memorial Lecture, paying rich tributes to Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh, one of India’s most celebrated military leaders, whose life and service remain an enduring source of inspiration for the nation.
Speaking at the event, the Lieutenant Governor described Arjan Singh’s extraordinary life as being closely intertwined with many of the defining moments in independent India’s history. He lauded the legendary Air Force officer’s exemplary leadership during the 1965 Indo-Pak War, for which he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted Arjan Singh’s distinguished contributions beyond military service, noting his tenure as a diplomat and later as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, where he continued to serve the nation with the same dedication and integrity that defined his military career.
Recalling the Marshal’s enduring values, Taranjit Singh Sandhu said his humility, unwavering integrity, professionalism and remarkable composure under pressure continue to inspire generations of Indians. He emphasised that the finest tribute to the legendary soldier and statesman lies in upholding these ideals through selfless service and commitment to the nation.
Describing it as a privilege to serve in an office once held by Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, the Lieutenant Governor said the Air Force legend’s life remains a constant source of guidance and inspiration.
Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh, the only officer of the Indian Air Force to have attained the five-star rank, is widely regarded as one of the architects of modern Indian air power. His leadership during the 1965 war and his decades of distinguished public service continue to occupy a special place in India’s military history.
The memorial lecture served as an occasion to honour his remarkable legacy while reaffirming the enduring values of courage, professionalism, patriotism and public service that continue to inspire the Armed Forces and the nation.
