Lieutenant General Sandeep Singh, AVSM, has taken over as the Commandant of Officers Training Academy, Gaya, marking a new leadership phase for one of the Indian Army’s key pre-commission training institutions. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, GOC-in-C, Army Training Command, along with all ranks of ARTRAC, congratulated Lt Gen Sandeep Singh on assuming the prestigious appointment.
Officers Training Academy, Gaya, plays an important role in preparing officer cadets for commissioned service in the Indian Army, with a focus on discipline, leadership, physical robustness, military values and professional competence. The new Commandant is expected to further strengthen the academy’s training ecosystem and continue its mission of shaping future military leaders.
Following the assumption of charge, Lieutenant General R.S. Sundaram, SM, VSM, Director General of Recruiting, interacted with Lt Gen Sandeep Singh at OTA Gaya to discuss the quality, expectations and aspirations of candidates being inducted into the Armed Forces. The interaction assumed particular significance in the context of the evolving mindset, ambitions and characteristics of the Gen-Z generation entering military service.
The discussions focused on strengthening the recruitment and induction framework so that the Army continues to select and develop high-calibre officer cadets. Emphasis was laid on ensuring that the recruitment process remains transparent, efficient, aspirant-friendly and aligned with the changing profile of young candidates aspiring to join the Armed Forces.
During the visit, Lt Gen R.S. Sundaram also held an interactive session with officer cadets at the academy. The session gave cadets an opportunity to share firsthand feedback on their experiences across the recruitment and induction journey, including the online application process, Services Selection Board assessment and reporting at the Pre-Commission Training Academy.

The interaction helped identify challenges faced by candidates at different stages and enabled constructive discussions on measures to further streamline procedures. The feedback gathered from cadets is expected to contribute to improvements in the overall candidate experience, from initial registration to final induction into training.
The initiative reflects the Directorate General of Recruiting’s continued focus on enhancing candidate-centricity while maintaining the high standards required for officer selection in the Indian Army. By engaging directly with cadets and academy leadership, the Army aims to ensure that future officer entrants experience a seamless, motivating and professional induction process.

Lt Gen Sandeep Singh’s tenure as Commandant of OTA Gaya comes at a time when military training institutions are adapting to new generational expectations, emerging technologies and future battlefield requirements. The academy will continue to play a vital role in moulding young cadets into capable, disciplined and value-driven officers for the Indian Army.
