The MoU was formally signed on 16 June 2026 by the Commandant of the Sikh Regimental Centre on behalf of the regiment. The initiative aims to provide Agniveers with access to academic programmes that will strengthen their qualifications, skills and long-term career opportunities.

Under the partnership, Agniveers will be able to enrol in a variety of educational programmes, including short-duration diploma courses that can be completed within six months. The collaboration also offers opportunities to pursue undergraduate degrees such as Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) while continuing their military service.

Officials stated that the programme has been designed to improve the educational credentials and employability of Agniveers, equipping them with valuable knowledge and skills that will benefit them both during their tenure in the Armed Forces and in future civilian careers.

The initiative reflects the Sikh Regiment’s commitment to the holistic development of its soldiers by integrating education with military service. By providing access to higher education, the regiment seeks to empower young servicemen with greater opportunities for personal growth, professional advancement and lifelong learning.

The collaboration is also aligned with the Government of India’s broader vision of developing a skilled, educated and future-ready workforce capable of contributing meaningfully to nation-building and economic development.

Defence officials noted that the programme reinforces the Sikh Regiment’s long-standing ethos of service, excellence and self-improvement while ensuring that Agniveers remain equipped to meet future challenges both within and beyond the military environment.

One of the Indian Army’s most decorated infantry regiments, the Sikh Regiment has consistently prioritised the welfare and advancement of its personnel. The partnership with GNDU is being viewed as a pioneering initiative that could serve as a model for similar educational collaborations across the Armed Forces.

The agreement marks an important milestone in expanding opportunities for Agniveers and underscores the growing emphasis on combining military service with academic and professional development.
