Surgeon Vice Admiral Krishna M Adhikari assumed charge as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical) at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff on May 31, 2026.
A distinguished paediatrician with more than three decades of service, Surg Vice Admiral Adhikari brings extensive experience in clinical practice, medical administration, teaching and leadership to the tri-services appointment.

Prior to assuming his new role, the Flag Officer was serving as the Command Medical Officer, Western Naval Command, where he oversaw medical support, healthcare administration and operational medical preparedness for one of the Indian Navy’s most important operational commands.
Throughout his illustrious career, Surg Vice Admiral Adhikari has held several key appointments across the Armed Forces medical establishment, earning recognition for his professional excellence and contributions to military healthcare.
As Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical), he will play a pivotal role in coordinating and strengthening medical policies, healthcare planning, operational medical support and tri-services medical integration for the Armed Forces.
The appointment comes at a time when the Armed Forces continue to focus on enhancing jointness, interoperability and integrated healthcare capabilities across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Officials noted that his vast experience in clinical medicine, medical leadership and healthcare management will further strengthen the medical support framework of the Indian Armed Forces and contribute to improving operational readiness and personnel welfare.
