Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth Calls on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla During High-Level Visit

Senior Army leadership discusses security and operational preparedness with the Governor as Indian Army continues to strengthen peace and stability efforts in the Northeast.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan) during his visit to the state, reaffirming the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region. The meeting brought together the Army’s senior operational leadership responsible for overseeing security and counter-insurgency operations across the Northeast.

Accompanying the Army Chief were the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Corps, and the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South). The presence of the senior military leadership underscored the strategic importance of Manipur and the continued focus on coordinated efforts to ensure security and normalcy in the state.

During the courtesy call, the senior Army leadership interacted with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and discussed the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness and the ongoing efforts being undertaken by the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles in support of maintaining peace and public confidence. The meeting also reflected the close coordination between the Armed Forces and the civil administration in addressing security challenges while facilitating developmental and governance initiatives.

General Dhiraj Seth’s visit comes as the Indian Army continues to play a vital role in safeguarding national security and supporting civil authorities across the Northeastern region. The Army, in close cooperation with the Assam Rifles and other security agencies, has been actively engaged in maintaining law and order, conducting counter-insurgency operations and assisting the administration in restoring normalcy wherever required.

Eastern Command, headquartered in Kolkata, is responsible for safeguarding India’s eastern frontiers and overseeing military operations across the Northeast. Under its operational control, formations such as 3 Corps remain at the forefront of ensuring security, enhancing operational readiness and responding swiftly to emerging challenges in the strategically significant region.

The Assam Rifles, functioning under the operational control of the Indian Army, continues to serve as the primary force responsible for border security along the India-Myanmar frontier while also undertaking counter-insurgency and internal security duties across the Northeast. Its close coordination with the Army has been instrumental in maintaining stability and strengthening security mechanisms in the region.
