Air Marshal IS Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Indian Air Force’s Eastern Air Command, held separate high-level interactions with the Governors of Manipur and Nagaland on July 11 and July 12, 2026, respectively, as part of efforts to strengthen civil-military coordination and reinforce security in India’s strategically significant Eastern sector.
On July 11, Manipur Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla met Air Marshal IS Walia to discuss issues of strategic importance concerning the region. The interaction focused on enhancing cooperation between the state administration and the Indian Air Force, with both sides deliberating on measures to improve synergy, collaborative frameworks and coordination in addressing evolving security challenges in the Eastern sector.

The discussions also reviewed key regional developments and emphasised the importance of close cooperation between civil authorities and the armed forces in maintaining operational preparedness, ensuring stability and responding effectively to emergencies and other contingencies. Both leaders highlighted the value of institutional collaboration in strengthening the overall security architecture of the region.
Continuing his engagements, Air Marshal IS Walia met the Governor of Nagaland, Shri Nand Kishore Yadav, on July 12. The interaction reaffirmed a shared commitment towards enhancing coordination, resilience and security across the Eastern sector. The meeting reflected the importance of sustained engagement between the Indian Air Force and state leadership in strengthening regional preparedness and promoting seamless cooperation on matters of strategic significance.
The discussions with the Nagaland Governor underscored the need for continued collaboration between civil administrations and the armed forces to address emerging challenges while ensuring a coordinated approach towards safeguarding national interests in the Northeast. Both sides recognised the critical role of resilience, effective communication and joint planning in maintaining peace and security in the region.
These engagements highlight the Eastern Air Command’s continued emphasis on fostering strong civil-military partnerships with state governments across the Northeast.
