Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth inaugurated AASHVAST, short for Assessment and Analysis of Electronic Systems Hardware for Vulnerabilities and Security Threats, a specialised facility aimed at strengthening the security, reliability and integrity of mission-critical military electronics.
The facility has been established to provide advanced capabilities for evaluating critical defence electronic systems and identifying potential vulnerabilities and security threats. Its capabilities are expected to contribute towards improving the resilience of military platforms against emerging technological and cyber-related challenges.
AASHVAST will enable detailed assessment of electronic hardware used across critical defence platforms, helping identify potential weaknesses and improve the reliability and security of systems before and during their operational lifecycle.
The initiative assumes significance as modern military platforms increasingly depend on sophisticated electronic systems, sensors, communication networks and other digitally enabled technologies. Ensuring the integrity and security of these systems is therefore essential for maintaining operational effectiveness and battlefield readiness.
The facility is expected to strengthen the Indian Army’s ability to assess and address vulnerabilities in mission-critical electronics while supporting the development of more secure and dependable defence technologies.
The initiative is also aligned with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and is expected to contribute to the growth of India’s domestic defence technology ecosystem. By developing indigenous capabilities for hardware security assessment and vulnerability analysis, AASHVAST can support Indian defence manufacturers and technology developers in strengthening the security of locally developed systems.
The establishment of the facility reflects the Indian Army’s growing emphasis on technology-driven capability enhancement and cyber resilience. It is expected to play an important role in ensuring that critical military electronics remain reliable, secure and operationally effective in an increasingly technology-intensive battlefield.
