Indian authorities have cleared unauthorised structures and encroachments located outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, in a move that comes days after Pakistani authorities removed parking poles installed outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
The structures cleared by the concerned agencies were located near the visa section of the Pakistani diplomatic mission and stood outside its designated compound perimeter, according to reports.
The development is being viewed as a reciprocal measure amid continued strains in India-Pakistan relations. Both countries have previously responded to administrative and diplomatic actions involving their respective missions with similar measures.
The latest episode comes against the backdrop of persistently difficult bilateral relations, with diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Islamabad remaining significantly restricted.
Tensions intensified following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, after which India launched Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The subsequent military confrontation was followed by a ceasefire, but relations have remained strained.
India has maintained that normalisation of relations with Pakistan requires an environment free from terrorism and violence. Several bilateral measures, including restrictions on trade and visas and changes in diplomatic staffing, have remained in place.
The two countries have nevertheless retained limited channels of military communication. Contacts between the Directors General of Military Operations have continued, providing a mechanism for addressing security-related issues and maintaining the ceasefire.
The reciprocal action involving the diplomatic missions underscores the sensitivity surrounding the functioning and security of Indian and Pakistani diplomatic establishments at a time when bilateral relations remain at a low point.
Both sides are expected to continue monitoring developments around their respective diplomatic missions as New Delhi and Islamabad manage the broader fallout of their strained relationship.
