Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C Central Command and Colonel of the Punjab Regiment, ceremonially handed over the Baton of ‘Colonel of the Regiment’ to Lt Gen Vijay B Nair, Commandant, The Infantry School, Mhow, during a solemn ceremony at the Punjab Regimental Centre on August 18, 2026.
The ceremony marked the formal transition of the appointment and symbolised the seamless continuity of leadership, responsibility and regimental traditions within the Punjab Regiment.

The Baton of the Colonel of the Regiment holds deep significance for the formation, representing honour, responsibility, regimental pride and the enduring bond between generations of soldiers.
During his tenure as Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta played an important role in strengthening the regiment’s training and institutional capabilities. He steered the raising of Bhairav Battalion and spearheaded the enhancement of key training infrastructure at the Punjab Regimental Centre.

These initiatives strengthened the centre’s capacity to train Agniveers and further develop the professional capabilities of young soldiers joining the regiment.
The handover ceremony reflected the Punjab Regiment’s long-standing military ethos and its commitment to preserving its proud traditions while adapting to the requirements of the modern battlefield.

With Lt Gen Vijay B Nair assuming the responsibility, the regiment enters the next phase of its journey under new leadership while carrying forward its established traditions, values and legacy of service to the nation.
