Lt Gen RS Sundaram, SM, VSM, Director General Recruiting, Indian Army, visited Headquarters Recruiting Zone, Chennai, on August 20, 2026, to review recruitment operations and outreach initiatives across the Area of Responsibility of ZRO Chennai.
During the visit, Lt Gen RS Sundaram was briefed on various initiatives undertaken by the Recruiting Zone to reach out to, inspire and motivate young people to pursue careers in the Indian Army.
The Recruiting Zone is leveraging extensive grassroots outreach and digital platforms to enhance awareness among youth about career opportunities in the Army. These initiatives are being undertaken in close coordination with the civil administration to ensure that information about recruitment procedures and opportunities reaches eligible candidates across the region.

The Director General Recruiting appreciated the concerted efforts of ZRO Chennai in strengthening engagement with youth and increasing awareness about the recruitment process. He also encouraged continued efforts to facilitate greater participation of eligible candidates in Indian Army recruitment rallies.
During his visit, Lt Gen RS Sundaram also interacted with Dr M Sai Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Tamil Nadu, and Dr Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu.
The discussions focused on prevailing recruitment trends in the state and measures required to facilitate maximum participation of eligible youth in the Army recruitment process.
The interaction highlighted the importance of close coordination between the Indian Army and civil administration in creating awareness, ensuring accessibility of recruitment information and encouraging motivated youth to pursue a career in the Armed Forces.

The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s focus on reaching the best talent through transparent recruitment, wider outreach and greater engagement with young people across the country.
