Lt Gen V Sreehari, AVSM, SC, SM, relinquished command of Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area on August 31, 2026, on his superannuation, bringing an end to an illustrious military career spanning nearly four decades.
On his final day in command, Lt Gen Sreehari laid a wreath at the Victory War Memorial in Chennai, paying tribute to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
Commissioned into the 16 Sikh Light Infantry in June 1987, Lt Gen Sreehari later volunteered for the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), where he served with distinction in a wide range of operational, command, staff and instructional appointments.
A proud alumnus of Sainik School Amaravathi Nagar, Lt Gen Sreehari’s career was marked by extensive operational experience and leadership across varied assignments. His service earned him the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Shaurya Chakra and Sena Medal.
During his tenure as General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, Lt Gen Sreehari placed considerable emphasis on strengthening civil-military relations and expanding public engagement with the Armed Forces. His initiatives focused on civil-military fusion, public outreach, military heritage, youth engagement, veteran welfare and operational preparedness.
Under his leadership, the Victory War Memorial in Chennai witnessed renewed public engagement, including the introduction of a Light and Sound Show with Tamil subtitles aimed at making the military heritage and sacrifices of India’s armed forces more accessible to local citizens and younger generations.
His tenure also saw greater efforts to connect the Armed Forces with youth and the wider community, while strengthening engagement with veterans and their families.
The Dakshin Bharat Area family paid tribute to Lt Gen Sreehari’s distinguished service and professional legacy, recognising his leadership, commitment and contribution to strengthening the Army’s relationship with civil society.
With his superannuation, Lt Gen V Sreehari leaves behind a legacy of professional excellence, operational commitment and people-centric leadership. His nearly four decades of service culminate in a distinguished record of duty to the Indian Army and the nation.
