Major General Amaresh Gunjan, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Golden Key Division, flagged off the Dainkund Trekking Expedition 2026, marking the beginning of a 152-kilometre, 10-day journey through the scenic and challenging terrain of Chamba.
The expedition brings together 15 trained mountaineer soldiers who will undertake the demanding trek with a purpose extending beyond adventure and physical endurance. The expedition has been conceived as a tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans and Veer Naris, while also promoting awareness about environmental conservation.
The 152-kilometre route will test the physical fitness, endurance and mountaineering skills of the participating soldiers as they navigate the mountainous terrain of the Chamba region. The 10-day expedition is expected to provide the team with an opportunity to engage with communities and students along the route.
A key objective of the expedition is to honour veterans and Veer Naris who have made significant contributions to the nation. Through the initiative, the participating soldiers aim to carry a message of gratitude and respect to military families whose sacrifices form an important part of India’s defence heritage.
The expedition will also focus on inspiring schoolchildren. The soldiers are expected to interact with students during the journey, encouraging them to embrace values such as discipline, courage, perseverance, teamwork and commitment to the nation.
