Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan commenced a four-day official visit to Mauritius from 10 to 13 August 2026, aimed at further strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation and deepening defence ties between the two nations.
The visit is part of India’s continued engagement with Mauritius, a valued maritime partner in the Indian Ocean Region. During the visit, Admiral Swaminathan will engage with senior leadership of the Government of Mauritius and hold discussions on matters of mutual interest, including maritime security, defence cooperation, capacity building and military collaboration.
The engagements are aimed at enhancing operational-level linkages between the two countries and consolidating the robust strategic partnership shared by India and Mauritius. The visit reflects the importance India places on strengthening maritime partnerships and promoting collective security in the Indian Ocean Region.
India and Mauritius share a close and enduring maritime relationship built on mutual trust, historical ties and shared maritime interests. The Indian Navy regularly engages with the Mauritius National Coast Guard through training exchanges, operational interactions, Joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance missions, port visits and hydrographic cooperation.
The two countries also participate in various multilateral maritime initiatives and regional forums focused on enhancing cooperation and maritime security. Mauritius has been a regular participant in key Indian Navy initiatives, including the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), MILAN, International Fleet Review, Goa Maritime Conclave, IOS SAGAR and Exercise AIKEYME.
