Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, during his official visit to Mauritius, called on His Excellency Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, on 12 August 2026.
The meeting was attended by Shri Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, and focused on further strengthening the longstanding maritime and defence partnership between India and Mauritius.
Discussions centred on enhancing cooperation in maritime security, training exchanges, information-sharing mechanisms, capacity building and operational linkages between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard.
The two sides discussed opportunities to deepen institutional and operational cooperation between their maritime forces. Greater information exchange and training interactions are expected to contribute to improved coordination and maritime domain awareness in the strategically important Indian Ocean Region.
Admiral Krishna Swaminathan assured the Mauritian Prime Minister of the Indian Navy’s continued support, assistance and cooperation in strengthening the capabilities of the Mauritius Police Force and the Mauritius National Coast Guard.
The CNS emphasised India’s commitment to supporting Mauritius in its capability enhancement and capacity-building efforts. The cooperation covers areas including professional training, operational interactions and the development of maritime capabilities.
India and Mauritius share close maritime ties, supported by regular naval engagements, training cooperation, joint Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance and other maritime security initiatives. The Indian Navy has also maintained regular interactions with the Mauritius National Coast Guard through operational and capacity-building activities.
The latest engagement during Adm Krishna Swaminathan’s visit reinforces India’s focus on strengthening maritime partnerships with countries in the Indian Ocean Region. Such cooperation contributes to enhancing regional maritime security, building capacity among partner nations and promoting greater operational coordination.
The visit also reflects the shared commitment of India and Mauritius towards maintaining a secure and stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean, in line with the broader vision of MAHASAGAR and India’s emphasis on collaborative maritime security.
