School Children Tie Rakhis to Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth on Raksha Bandhan

New Delhi: The spirit of Raksha Bandhan took on a special patriotic meaning as school children tied Rakhis to Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth as part of the Indian Army’s ‘Bharat Raksha Parv – रक्षक को राखी’ initiative.

The celebration brought together young students and the leadership of the Indian Army, symbolising the close relationship between the country’s citizens and the soldiers who safeguard the nation. The children expressed their affection, respect and gratitude towards the Armed Forces by tying Rakhis to the Army Chief.

The ceremony was marked by warm interactions and smiling faces, with the simple gesture of children tying Rakhis carrying a larger message of gratitude towards soldiers serving across the country. Raksha Bandhan, traditionally associated with affection, trust and protection, was used on the occasion to recognise those entrusted with protecting the nation and its citizens.

Under the theme ‘Bharat Raksha Parv – रक्षक को राखी’, the celebration extended the traditional meaning of the festival beyond families and highlighted the emotional connection between Indian citizens and the Armed Forces.

General Dhiraj Seth, who took over as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff on June 30, 2026, has served in the Indian Army for nearly four decades. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, he was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 and has held important operational and command appointments during his career.

The Raksha Bandhan interaction also reflected a wider tradition of civilians expressing their appreciation for soldiers during the festival. Similar Rakhi celebrations involving schoolchildren, NCC cadets, community organisations and Army personnel have been associated with the broader Bharat Raksha Parv initiative.

For the young students participating in the programme, the Rakhi represented more than the traditional bond between a brother and sister. It became a symbolic expression of appreciation for the men and women who spend long periods away from their families while serving the country.

The celebration ultimately carried a simple message: the relationship between the Indian Army and the people it serves extends beyond security and duty. It is also built on trust, affection, respect and a shared sense of belonging.

Through the innocent smiles of the children and the Rakhis tied to the Army Chief, Bharat Raksha Parv offered a heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who stand guard over the nation.
